Another 'Terminator', really?

I nearly pulled a Liz Lemon and had a liquidless spit-take when I found out that Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to return to The Terminator franchise.  Cybernetic organisms made from a hyperalloy combat chassis do not age.  How are fans, new and old, going to be able to get passed that rather large detail?  It's going to take a lot more than the average suspension of disbelief I can tell you.  I'm not trying to take anything away from the legend that breathed life in to some of the greatest action characters to ever blow shit up, but it's a little passed the time to pull this one off.  McG's usage of the CGI cameo was hard enough to swallow, but it was minor and fun.  Terminator Salvation was not built around Schwarzenegger, but 5 will be.

Apparently, I am not the only one to think this is a questionable idea.  There is no script.  There is no studio jumping at the chance to snap this up, though there are a few studios entertaining the notion of the project, but so far that is all it is, entertainment.

The one thing the project has going for it is director Justin Lin.  I'm not a fan of The Fast And The Furious franchise, which he took over with Tokyo Drift, but I do so like his work on the NBC sitcom Community, directing, among others, Modern Warfare, one of the best episodes of television in the last couple of seasons.

I'm looking forward to hearing who is going to pen this installment of the series, and to see what Lin is going to do with it.

I was hoping they only make another Terminator film if the script was good and that they hopefully conclude the movie series.

When they announced that Helena Bonham Carter was playing the main villain in Terminator: Salvation, I was expecting her to be the Skynet equivalent of the Borg Queen from Star Trek. I was so disappointed in the end when I saw the film and it was a wasted opportunity to have a really iconic and memorable villain in the franchise. They should have had a confrontation between her, Christian Bale and Sam Worthington towards the end like with Picard, Data and the Borg Queen in Star Trek: First Contact’s climax.

Former California Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger needs to do more dramas rather than just doing huge action blockbusters because he pigeonholed himself as an actor who just did action movies. He is an underrated actor. So, I hope that he does more dramas, tries to reach his full potential as an actor and tries to win an Oscar.

Anything they do to justify the aging of the T-800 is exactly that: justification.

So are they thinking of doing what Tron Legacy did with Jeff Bridges? Complete CGI of the "Govenator". It will be interesting to see how they mix and match old and new, hopefully without ruining the series.
