Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 1:10AM Jay Baruchel Joins Cast of 'Cosmopolis'
I love it when actors choose a new role that is the polar opposite of most of their previous work. Today I was pleased to learn that typecasted comedy star Jay Baruchel has signed on to director David Cronenberg's next drama Cosmopolis, Deadline reports.
Baruchel joins an already impressive cast list that features Robert Pattison, Paul Giamatti, Samantha Morton and Juliette Binoche.

Cronenberg adapted the screenplay from Don DeLillo's novel Cosmopolis, which tells the story of a successful financial wiz and multi-millionair named Eric Parker (Pattison) who during a hectic day of riding in his limo throughout Manhattan, somehow manages to lose his entire fortune. According to Deadline, Baruchel "will play the shy guy who founded the company" that Parker works for, while also apparently serving as Parker's conscience.
So, I guess playing a quiet, reserved guy isn't exactly out of the norm for Baruchel, who generally fills the role of the awkwardly funny, nice guy/geek in most of his movies. However, being that Cosmopolis is a dramatic film, I think it will be intriguing to witness a different side to an actor that I've grown accustomed to seeing only in romantic comedies and adventure flicks.
I'm also curious to see if Pattinson is actually a good actor, instead of just that weird looking dude who stars in those Twilight movies that I'll never see.
Cosmopolis is currently in the pre-production stage and is slated for a 2012 release.
