Attack The Block is Joe Cornish's directorial debut, and I judged this book by its cover when it first started popping up, but what caught my eye was that it was from the producers of Shaun of the Dead (specifically Nira Park and Edgar Wright), the High Hopes meter climbing. A quick search results page later and Nick Frost's name is littering the screen, and the High Hopes meter just rang the bell, everything else is gravy.
Imagine the child-safe version of Assault on Precinct 13 (remake), with the flow of The Goonies, and the characters from the intro of Boyz 'N The Hood. So, all that one really needs to know going in to this movie is that a group of inner city kids defend the block where they live from an alien invasion, and Nick Frost is, hopefully, the "adult" they need to lean on for help, or whatever.
Looking at it in those terms made it sound pretty fun, and after finding out the rest of the crew involved, this could be the movie that gets parents and kids going to the theater again to see something other than animation or that damn wizard. Joe Corninsh could very well be the next generations Chris Columbus, and I know, he is also responsible for that damn wizard, which makes this a touch on the contradictory side, but he will always be associated with Gremlins and Goonies to me, and that is the potential Attack the Block has.

This looks like a rad movie, so I'm hoping it's released in my small town.
