Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 10:49PM Do You Want To Bid For The Rights to 'Terminator 5'?

If you have $15 million laying around, it might be a good deal. In fact, at that price it'll sell for roughly half of the $29.5 million hedge fund Pacifcor paid for the rights to the film last year. Believe it or not, even just couple months ago, the rights to Terminator 5 has been only a fraction of the $15 million expected auction price, but now with Justin Lin directing the film coming off his massive success of Fast Five, and Governator Schwarzenegger coming out of retirement to act, this film is primed to be a blockbuster.
Currently, Lionsgate and Annapuma Pictures are bidding against each other and to be honest, neither of these studios probably has the budget to produce a CG heavy oriented film. I would think Terminator 5 would cost a minimum of $75 million so just buying the rights won't get you that far.
I hope one of these studios take a page out of MGM and give up international distribution rights in exchange for $100+ million in financing. If Terminator 5 bombs like the 4th one, it could be the death of this classic franchise.

I was hoping they only make another Terminator film if the script was good and that they hopefully conclude the movie series.
When they announced that Helena Bonham Carter was playing the main villain in Terminator: Salvation, I was expecting her to be the Skynet equivalent of the Borg Queen from Star Trek. I was so disappointed in the end when I saw the film and it was a wasted opportunity to have a really iconic and memorable villain in the franchise. They should have had a confrontation between her, Christian Bale and Sam Worthington towards the end like with Picard, Data and the Borg Queen in Star Trek: First Contact’s climax.
Former California Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger needs to do more dramas rather than just doing huge action blockbusters because he pigeonholed himself as an actor who just did action movies. He is an underrated actor. So, I hope that he does more dramas, tries to reach his full potential as an actor and tries to win an Oscar.
