After having Black Swan cross the $300 million in box-office revenue (a little film that could) and dropping his involvement from The Wolverine, Darren Aronofsky is thought to be wanted by two major Hollywood studios for big-budgeted pictures: Warner Bros. with Moses and Disney with Maleficent.
Angelina Jolie as a possible Maleficent?According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tim Burton has dropped out of Maleficent, even though its script was being written by Linda Woolverton and Angelina Jolie attached to star, Disney has been eyeing Darren Aronofsky to take over the helm. Disney has also been thinking of David Yates, director of the last several Harry Potter movies, to take the directing duties. Honestly who would walk away from this?
Warner Bros. also wants Darren Aronofsky for their big budget biblical epic Moses, touted as the story of when Moses led the Jews out of slavery in Egypt and then getting lost in the desert. Warner Bros. would certainly want to fast-track this project since there's another set up at Fox.
Being what may or may not happen, Aronofsky is in the precarious position of choosing his next project without any real pressure. Black Swan has made a rather more-than-healthy box-office return and a run for multiple Oscars and studios are eyeing Aronofsky for a big-budget Hollywood production. Is that something he wanted to be involved with, considering he recently dropped out of The Wolverine? Or will he go back to his indie productions, a la Black Swan? Time will tell.
