Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 5:50PM Fox Narrows Directorial Search for 'The Wolverine' Down to 8
Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky turned the down The Wolverine follow-up gig months ago, and now Fox has finally picked up the pace in the directorial hunt again. The studio sent Variety a shortlist of filmmakers they're eyeing to helm Chris McQuarrie's script, including some names you wouldn't ordinarily associate with big blockbuster action films.

Here's the list of potential directors reportedly being courted for the vacancy and some of their previous/upcoming work.
Jose Padilha (Elite Squad 1&2, Robocop reboot) Sign him up!
Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Mr. & Mrs. Smith) Also a good choice
Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, Shooter) Pass
Mark Romanek (One Hour Photo, Never Let Me Go) Meh = Pass
Justin Lin (Fast Five) Even if a Wolverine was a type of sports car...Pass
Gavin O'Connor (Warrior, Miracle) Must see Warrior first
James Mangold (3:10 to Yuma, Knight and Day) Hmm...Interesting possibility
Gary Shore (creator of the Wolverine fan trailer attached below) How cool would that be!?
In my opinion, there are some good and not so good names mentioned here, and it's difficult to know just how serious Fox is about handing over the job to any of them. I'm guessing how X-Men: First Class is received will ultimately determine who inherits the director's chair for The Wolverine, or will likely lead to a frenzy of big time directors that are interested in a piece of the franchise.
Who is Fox going to pick to take Hugh Jackman/Wolverine to Japan for the next installment?

Maybe they should get rid of Jackman, replace him with someone *actually* menacing enough to play the role. Then let Jose Padilha do his thing, and we know he can take a lousy script and make it worth something. That definitely would make wolverine worth watching...
I think Wolverine will also face off with Daken, The Gorgon, Matsu’o Tsurayaba, Ogun and Shingen Yashida.
Since the story is set in Japan, they have to include Tyger Tiger (Jessan Hoan), Itsu, Amiko Kobayashi, Mariko Yashida and Yukio.
There is definitely a lot of work that goes into this movie. I just love the hard work that it will pay of in the long run on this movie. gainesville spray foam insulation
