Sick of Playing Pirates? 'Pirates 5' Script is Ready, But Johnny Depp Isn't

Disney’s ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ hasn't been released yet, but apparently fans can’t wait for the next movie.

Terry Rossio has finished the script for Jack Sparrow’s next adventure.

Rossio told The Hollywood Reporter that the "untitled script" was delivered to Disney this past weekend. This is the first script he’s written without Ted Elliot, who was involved in the first four ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ scripts, Disney’s most profitable film franchise.

Are you wondering why they are in such a hurry? Well, rumors say that after playing so many eccentric characters, Johnny Depp has decided to become a real pirate and Disney wants to take as much advantage of it as possible! Nah…I’m just kidding.

It’s all about the Benjamins! The first three movies have grossed over $3 billions worldwide, Pirates 4 will be the first one in 3D (insert cash register sound here), so of course there’s a lot of money to be made, and money is the first item on Disney’s “to-do list”, followed by “turn theme park employees’ souls into pixie dust” and other less important things.

They've got Jerry Bruckheimer on board and it looks like Rob Marshall might be coming back, even though no deals have been made yet. Marshall took over Pirates after Gore Verbinski ditched Bruckheimer to work on the movie adaptation of ‘BioShock’, a popular video game.

What about Jack? Will Johnny Depp play Jack Sparrow again? Will the next movie be a prequel?

Well, Depp recently told THR that he hasn’t seen the new screenplay yet, but he isn’t opposed to playing Jack Sparrow again.

"It boils down to story, script and filmmaker," Depp said. "It's not something where I would say, 'Let's shoot it next month to get it out by Christmas 2012,'" he added.

Do you blame him? I was exhausted after watching Pirates 2 and Pirates 3, kind of same way I felt about 'The Matrix Reloaded' and 'The Matrix Revolutions', I enjoyed watching them, but it was just too much too soon.

Depp didn’t exactly enjoy working the demanding schedule that forced him to shoot Pirates 2 and Pirates 3 back-to-back, just because those movies HAD to be ready to be released by the summers of 2006 and 2007.

"We should hold off for a bit. They should be special, just like they are special to me." Johnny Depp said to THR.

I couldn’t agree more. Can’t they at least wait to see if the fans will actually enjoy the fourth movie? It doesn’t matter how awesome the special effects are or how real the 3D looks, the bottom line is, a bad plot can make us ignore all the smoke and mirrors (Ahem…Transformers 2).
