Just finished reading a couple of articles/blogs/whathaveyou about peoples top picks for the summer. 95% (made up figure) of the lists were comprised entirely of the same big budget special effects extravaganzas everyone has been talking about for months. A few of them listed one of the most anticipated comedies of the summer The Hangover Part 2. Hopefully, there are others out there that dare to say they enjoy a good comedy now and then, there are some potentially great ones in the mix.
As mentioned, The Hangover Part 2. It is going to be hilarous. But is it going to be hilarious in the same way The Hangover was funny? Probably. Nothing wrong with that at all, just nothing really exciting about it either.
Producer Judd Apatow and director Paul Feig are giving us Bridesmaids, and it is about exactly that. A group of bridesmaids on varying rungs of the social ladder doing what bridesmaids do. Led by Kristen Wiig this should be one of the higher grossing comedies of the summer.
Because Jason Bateman (Arrested Development) is starring I have to say The Change-Up will have its moments, but other than that it doesn't interest me much.
The movie I hope gets a lot of attention is The Trip starring Steve Coogan (Hot Fuzz, Hamlet 2) and Rob Brydon as Steve and Rob. This film is the sweetened condensed version of the six-part mini-series that has already come and gone on the BBC. It looks to be a real comedy, if that makes sense. Some comedies seem to be a bit forced, this one is not that. It comes across as two buddies traveling, eating excellent food, and having funny conversations whilst impersonating a lot of different characters.
So, if you plan on seeing one comedy this summer, The Trip is probably not going to be it, but I imagine most of you will see more than one so give it a look.

I'm thinking 30 Minutes or Less will be the best comedy of the summer or the one I anticipate enjoying the most.
Steve Coogan was great in a limited role on Curb Your Enthusiasm, so I'll definitely check out the movie.
I bet this movie will be worth my time, I've read on other reviews and it sounds and looks like a great movie for this year.
