Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at 11:19PM First Trailer & Poster for the 'Footloose' Reboot
Here's a quick test: Think of an old '80's movie not worth a second go-around in theaters, and invariably one of the first answers that comes to your mind should be Footloose. Unfortunately, that same story of a small town that outlaws dancing of all things is headed to reboot land.
Here's the first poster for Footloose 2011.

The updated Footloose comes from a capable director in Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow, Black Snake Moan), who I'm stunned to see associated with this super cheesy, modern rendition of the original. The newer version resembles more of a You Got Served/Step-Up style of movie that makes Kevin Bacon's Footlose seem like a four star masterpiece in comparison.
The character Bacon played, Ren McCormack will be portrayed by young actor Kenny Wormald, who actually played a dancer in You Got Served and in Clerks II. The return of the overbearing preacher whose anti-rock 'n roll (if you can call it that now) and dancing sentiment looks to have the only worthwhile role in this film. And kudos to the studio for bringing in veteran actor Dennis Quaid to revise it.
In the original movie the parents seem bent outta shape for the stupidest offense of all (dancing), though in the modern version appear to have just cause for concern. Maybe it's because I'm older now, but if I saw my daughter wearing Daisy Dukes and grinding against some dude's junk I'd be on a mission to ban dancing too.
Oh well...I'll get off my soap box now and show you the first trailer for Footloose, courtesy of our pals at MTV. Thanks to impawards.com for the poster as well.
