In terms of quality? Probably not. But with $956.7 million in worldwide box office sales, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is a top 10 movie of all time. It recently passed Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows which earned $954.5 million. Who is #9 on the list? Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End with $963.4 which it should have no trouble passing. By now, Disney must be "yo ho hoing" to the bank!
Not suprisingly, the key to top 10 standings is international sales and this one didn't disappoint in that regard either, with 76.8% coming from international sales. Pirates of the Caribbean now the most successful franchise of all time. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest earned $1.07 billion and is at the #4 spot of all time. That makes THREE Pirates movies in the top ten. Wowza!
This also makes Johnny Depp the top earner in Hollywood, as he now has 4 films in the top 10. Depp's Alice in Wonderland also grossed $1.02 billion. Oh yeah, and Disney is making money hand over fist.
