Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 12:10PM Marvel To Drop Out Of Comic-Con As Well

Less than two weeks ago I wrote about major Hollywood studios pulling out from Comic-Con, choosing not to display their big tent-pole comic book superhero movies. Therefore is comes as no surprise that Marvel too has decided to pull out from showcasing any of their upcoming films at the convention. Some may think that Comic-Con is the perfect place to market their films to devoted fanbase's, but a certain tide has changed.
Lately, major studios have show showcased their films to much fanfare, but they failed at the box-office with the general viewing public. Even after spending quite the sum for Sucker Punch and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, they both failed at the box-office. Luckily, Tron: Legacy didn't fare as badly, its numbers certainly wasn't what Disney expected.
JoBlo concurrently is reporting with their take:
At that point Warner Bros, Dreamworks and Disney said they weren't showing anything major and now Marvel Studios has been added to that list as well. That means no Dark Knight, no Man of Steel and no Avengers. A far cry from last year when the entire Avengers cast assembled for the first time on stage, which was more or less the highlight of the whole event
...
Still though, it seems strange to pull giant franchises like this completely off the table from an event that's more or less devoted to their existence. It's hard to imagine anything from Batman, Superman or the Avengers wouldn't be met with much enthusiasm, and all those films have yet to show anything major to the public.
JoBlo still reports we'll be seeing some footage from soem sizeable films including The Amazing Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn. Somewhat luckily, we'll be seeing footage from The Amazing Spider-Man (from Marc Webb, starring Andrew Garfield) and Cowboys & Aliens (from Jon Favreau), premiering a mere few weeks after the convention and a perfectly timed last-minute marketing push. We'll also be seeing Ghost Rider 2 and Breaking Dawn... I think we'll skip those for now.

who's the editor around here? "soem"? Bland writing too. GTBP, your writers have been slacking lately... I read a review that made the comparison of two actors to peanut butter and jelly. HACK. Please do not disappoint any further.
Sincerely,
Your devoted readers (and jeff 123)
So maybe ComicCon will go back to being about - what so many say it hasn't been about for so many years - COMICS.
Shut up J.Bradley. #golfwang
I really appreciate the efforts you have put in writing such a great post.
