Sorry, I just don't think he's right for the role.
Collider had a brief chat with Don Cheadle recently. You know the guy who bogarted Terrance Howard's role in Iron Man? Actually, I thought Terrance Howard was terrible for the role, but I also don't view Don Cheadle as an action hero. I see him more as a dramatic actor like he was in Hotel Rwanda. But I digress.
Cheadle told Collider that Iron Man 3 is a definite thing (no duh) and there might be a spin off of War Machine. He also notes that he won't be in the Avengers.
Says Cheadle, "Iron Man 3 is coming back. We'll probably do that again in February...and there's talk of a War Machine spin-off, which, unless I get recast, I would probably do. Asked whether he'll be in The Avengers, Cheadle replied, "not this one that they're shooting right now. I have a contract to be in 'The Avengers' but I'm glad they haven't exercised that option yet. I need some down time."
I think Cheadle is smart for thinking there's a chance that he might get recast. Even though, he's an excellent top notch actor, I can see someone who is more of an action hero taking on this role. That being said, it would be a bit weird to have three different actors playing the same role throughout the series.
