Everyone loved that G.I. Joe movie that was released two years ago. Well, maybe a few people. Ok, fine, no one, but that doesn’t mean you aren’t interested in hearing about the sequel. Now just hear me out, the film is getting a completely new cast, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson signed up earlier this month to try to revive the series. His presence did somewhat help Fast Five become a success.
Now G.I. Joe 2, subtitled Cobra Strikes, has added Wu Tang alum RZA. RZA is best known for his rap career but has also found success for composing the score for Kill Bill Vol. 1 and having supporting roles and cameos in many films like Repo Men, Due Date and Derailed. RZA will be playing Blind Master, a martial arts master who, in the comics, trained Snake-Eyes and Jinx (played by Elodie Yung).

Also D.J. Cotrona, who is best known for playing Detective John Stone on ABCs Detroit 1-8-7, is slated to play Flint, a character that is recognized for his beret and his shotgun. I just wonder if any connection between Joe and Transformers would be made since in the comics and cartoons; Flint is the father of Marissa Faireborn, who is reportedly in Transformers: Dark of the Moon played by Frances McDormand. Most likely this will probably not happen.

G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes is at the helm of Jon Chu, director of Step Up 2 and 3 and the Justin Bieber documentary. I can't say that I'm too excited for that. RZA and D.J. Cotrona join Channing Tatum, Dwayne Johnson and Elodie Yung in this popcorn flick, which will release August 10, 2012.

I loved the G.I. Joe cartoon, comics and toys, but the movie was awful and I'm assuming the sequel will be as well.
At least they replaced the crappy director from the first though.
