Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at 2:18PM Will Ferrell & Adam McKay Together Again for New Comedy 'Swear to God'
Most of Will Ferrell's best comedies have come while working with director Adam McKay and vice versa. Deadline reports, the pair will team up again for the new comedy, Swear to God, pitched by Due Date writers Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland. Ferrell is attached to headline the movie with Mckay serving as the producer in this one.
Swear to God is being dubbed "a buddy comedy in which Ferrell plays a narcissistic hedge fund manager who thinks he has seen God." Okey doke.
We've all witnessed Ferrell, whom I strongly believe is the funniest man on the planet, turn the most simple and maybe even terrible sounding plots into movie gold, and Swear to God will probably be no different. At least, it's guaranteed to dominate at the box office with Ferrell attached.
A lot of this comedy's success may ultimately hinge on who plays the buddy opposite of Ferrell, and whether Cohen and Freedland can produce a better script than their previous effort with Due Date. I thought Due Date was an epic disappointment, despite the solid trailers and awesome cast of Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis. How you could fail with those two starring and Hangover director Todd Phillips at the helm is beyond me.
We won't see Swear to God arriving in theaters any time soon, as Cohen and Freedland still have to write the thing first. Pressure is on gentlemen. You've got Will Ferrell this time, so don't F' this up!
Word is Ferrell has been looking to reunite with Other Guys co-star Mark Wahlberg for another movie, though I hope they opt for someone like John C. Reilly instead.
