'Bridesmaids' Now Judd Apatow's Highest-Grossing Movie Ever?

Go see Bridesmaids if you've failed to do so and that's an order!  Kristen Wiig's surprise comedy has been en fuego since its May 13 release, and is on pace to break all sorts of box office records.  In fact, Bridesmaids was closing in on becoming Judd Apatow's biggest movie ever as of last night, according to THR. 

The Apatow produced comedy was en route to surpassing Knocked Up's, a previous Apatow comedy, domestic gross of $148,760,000 last night, while also proving to be Universal's most successful R-rated film ever.  It's safe to assume Bridesmaids has officially made the transition to the top as of today, and should continue to thrive in theaters. 

Paul Feig's impressive comedy was deemed by many critics as a hilarious chick flick, before I actually went out and saw it.  Of course, that's a total misconception for one of the raunchiest comedies I've seen.  The all female cast, highlighted by exceptional performances from Wiig and Melissa McCarthy  , was just foul-mouthed and low brow as the fellas in The Hangover, but better.  The script, also penned by Wiig, contained wonderful subtle humor and was a great story.  Relative newcomer, and the only real male contributor in the film, Chris O'Dowd was phenomenal as well. 

Again, not to beat a dead horse here, but Bridemaids is a brilliant movie that I would urge everyone to see if they haven't.  It's my favorite movie of the summer thus far, slightly edging out Super 8 for my top spot.  Not exactly a fair comparison, I know...Let's just say it's the best comedy of the summer.

This movie's by far the biggest hit of the year (in terms of expectations vs. actualization), and deservedly so.

Oh and before someone jumps on the NOBODY SAW THIS COMING EVER bandwagon, this film found its audience due to strong marketing, a recognizible, likable premise & cast, and glowing reviews. Nothing else. Not because we're following some sort of make-believe "female raunchy comedy" trend, but because this is a great, endearing comedy that people took to heart.
