Development Starts on 'Salt 2'

Surprise hit of 2010, Salt, got the green light for a sequel and development is quickly underway.  Kurt Wimmer, who was the writer for the original script will also be penning the sequel and has gotten started on the story about CIA officer Evelyn Salt.  Although it isn't official, Angelina Jolie will likely reprise her starring role in the film.

I say the original was a surprise hit because of the film's box office gross.  Can you guess how much the film did?

Salt produced nearly $300 million worldwide with $120 million of that coming from the domestic box office! However, it came with a huge price tag as it cost Sony $110 million to produce.  I can almost guarantee that the sequel's budget will be much less and the studio is looking to cash in on the success of the original.  I don't think this will turn into another Bourne type of series.  No word on the film's release date but it's realistic to say that it'll release late next year in 2012.
