Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 8:15PM Shia LaBeouf Thinks 'Indiana Jones 5' Will Be On Fast Track

Shia LaBeouf has much more credibility than me when it comes to when Indiana Jones 5 will be developed but I question his reasoning on this one. As you know, after the last disastrous revival of Indiana Jones, Lucas and Spielberg are interested in giving it another go. I trust it'll be better than Indiana Jones 4. In an interview with MTV, Shia LaBeouf was asked for his opinion on when he believes Indiana Jones 5 will begin production.
Says LaBeouf, "I talked to [Harrison Ford]...he said he's staying in the gym, he said he's heard no word, but he does know that [George Lucas] is out there looking for a MacGuffin. He said he's staying in the gym, so it means [the movie is] not so far off."
Am I wrong to think that just because celebrities stay in the gym doesn't mean they will make Indiana Jones 5 next? It can be another role in a different film or maybe he's just working out for health reasons like everyone else. That being said, I do believe Indiana Jones 5 will happen eventually, but it doesn't even seem like they found a script that they like. However, we do know the general focus of the story. It's rumored to be about the Bermuda Triangle.

For the sake of the universe I hope he's wrong.
First of all, with 'Cowboys and Aliens' on the way, It's not like Harrison Ford is retired from the action genre, getting fat and playing shuffle board. And don't forget that he has Calista Flockhart at home. Man's gotta stay fit!
That said, there have been rumblings of Indy 5 since Indy 4 was still in the theater. More than anything, it seems this just gives Shia something to talk about while he's out promoting Dark of the Moon on account of the fact that no one is asking him when Eagle Eye 2 starts production.
If they do another Indy Jones movie it would have to take place in the early 60's and the X Men already have that period staked out. It would be stylistic overkill to have TWO movie franchises subtly ripping off the classic James Bond era.
