Friday, July 1, 2011 at 3:12AM Jeff Bridges Plans to Adapt Sci-Fi Book, 'The Giver' for the Big Screen & Star in it

The best actor in the movie biz, the abiding dude himself is finally able to sink his teeth into a passion project he's wanted to do for a decade. Jeff Bridges has purchased the film rights to Lois Lowry's young adult sci-fi novel, "The Giver" with plans of adapting it for the silver screen, according to IMDB. The Oscar winning actor will also star in the film.
The Giver is the story of a futuristic society where all human memories have been erased in order to prevent all pain and sadness. A 12-year-old boy is chosen to bear all of his community's emotions and receives them from an ageing Giver.
His daughter introduced him to the book after she read it in high school, and he planned to cast his father, the late Lloyd Bridges as the elder in the film.
"I originally thought of the role of the Giver as a vehicle for my father; however, at 61 years old, I feel the time is right for me to do it," Bridges told Variety.
Although I've never heard of this story before, I made pact with myself to see every Bridges movie that comes out. What can I say? The dude is a great actor.

I'm excited. Bridges is a great fit.
You've never heard of "The Giver?" Did you not go to school as a child?
I saw this link on IMDB and I nearly screamed for joy! I LOVEEEEE The Giver! And after seeing Jeff Bridges play his character in the newest Tron, I know he could play the Giver. It's just a major bummer that it's set to come out 2 years from now, in 2013. Sad, right?!
Don't get your hopes up. They have been saying that they are going to make this move since 2006. I do think that Jeff will be a great fit for the role IF they ever make the movie.
Ya I've been following this since 2006 as well, but when I heard Jeff Bridges has paid for the rights to the book, I actually think it may happen now, and Jeff is a great fit for the role. Let's just hope he puts it on the big screen in a way that appropriately conveys the feel of the book!
