Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at 5:08PM Netflix Prices Rise. What Has This World Come To?
If you are subscribed to Netflix, depending on your plan, you might get pissed from this little piece of news. Today, Netflix decided to raise the price of unlimited streaming and DVDs by mail (1 DVD at a time) from $10.88 to $15.98. That means that starting today, Netflix will no longer bundle the streaming service with the DVDs by mail and will sell them separately starting at $7.99 each; one DVD by mail is $7.99 a month and two DVDs by mail is $11.99 a month.
I really don't like this new change. I have used Netflix for about a year now and I love their services. The nearest Netflix DVD distribution site is about 15 minutes away from where I live so I get movies by mail relatively fast. The streaming service is also great to just spend the day watching foreign films I've always wanted to watch or to just get my South Park fix. It's going to be hard to decide whether or not I would stay with Netflix due to the increase or if I should decide on which service I want. I just feel as though Netflix has stabbed me in the back.
Tell us what you think about this. Read the Press Release here.

Health is certainly more valuable than money, because it is by health that money is procured.
This increase is crazy. Netflix looks good, but too expensive now. An alternative is the service from "TVDevo" website that runs well and consumes less bandwidth. I found out about it on the CNN site a while ago and have been using it since.
I'm in the exact same boat as you and i am pissed! The problem with the dvds by mail is you only get 2 per week if u watch them right away and send them out the next morning. Now most of the new releases u have to wait a month before they're available and then even longer as they have a long wait because everyone wants them. The problem with the instant streaming is u can't get all the movies only ones they choose to stream and this never includes the new releases. I will probably drop the DVDs by mail and keep the streaming. I have XBox live so if i want to rent a new release i will just do it off live. This could hurt Netflix big time. Most people have movies on demand with their cable subscriptions and if they're not careful people are going to decide to do that and drop Netflix. I think Netflix should go with what they were planning on doing a while back which is get rid of DVDs by mail altogether. Just do instant streaming and have 2 plans of that. One at $7.99 the way it is and one for like $11.99 that gets you the premium package with all the new releases intact and everything else. Or they could charge more than that because people who had DVDs by mail could now get unlimited at any time instead of one every 3 days. They could still enforce the 1month hold on new releases and everything would be peachy. Plus they would save alot of money on postage. Everyone wins! Unfortunately right now the customer loses and in the end Netflix may lose too
DVDs by mail demand is on the rise. I can see why as bonus features are only available on disc and people like me love to watch the behind the scenes stuff and/or watch the film with commentary. Many people are saying they are going to use red box instead now.
Thats why I use Mixvid.net! its free ; )
We're going to subscribe to the DVD plan and catch up on recent releases and then switch and stream for a while and then switch again. Thanks to the commenters for the names of alternative services.
