Friday, July 15, 2011 at 12:14PM Holy Moly! Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows 2 Makes $43.5 Million...at Midnight!
Wowza! Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows 2 just did $43.5 million in midnight screenings handidly beating Twilight Saga: Eclipse by $13.5 million. Even if they were helped by 3D tickets that is huge! Still when we talk about the records that matter, it's the box office figures for the first 24 hours which is currently set at $72 million by Eclipse, and the box office for the three day opening weekend which is at $158 million set by The Dark Knight.
So will Harry Potter break these records? Well I think the odds are still against them as I said in my previous post, I think the closure of the 405 this weekend in LA is keeping many people home. Yeah, I know it's only one city but I think a good portion of box office sales 5 - 8% probably comes from the LA area.
The one day record is a bit more likely since they are already over half way there but as I predicted, this will be the largest grossing movie in the entire Harry Potter series. I think the three day total will end up at around $150 million and I expect them to beat the single day record by about $5 million for a gross of $77 million.
