Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at 2:35PM Ben Stiller Back in the Director's Chair for 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty'

Is it a blessing in disguise that Ben Stiller wants to direct his next movie to star in? The actor's movies as of late have been pretty bad, even counting Greenberg. Looks like the comedian wants to snap out of his current funk by directing the film adaptation of James Thurber's short story The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Variety reports.
The story, which was originally published in 1939, follows the protagonist with a hyper active imagination, who day dreams of countless adventures as an escape from his ordinary life. The book inspired a film version in 1947 starring Danny Kaye, but the project has mostly been on the shelf for decades. Spielberg and Ron Howard were two names linked to the project over the years, though nothing ever came to fruition with either.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is now Stiller's to star in and direct with 20th Century Fox backing him. Steve Conrad (The Pursuit of Happyness) will write the screenplay. I'm personally hoping Stiller doesn't include CGI or of the other hackiness that has plagued his recent films.
Sadly, there's no information beyond Stiller's involvement yet.
