'Man of Steel' Release Delayed to 2013

Even Superman can't fight delays

In a bit of upsetting news (for me at least) Warner Bros announced that Man of Steel, the Superman reboot produced by Christopher Nolan and directed by Zack Synder, will be released on June 14th, 2013 instead of December 2012.  It isn't a complete heart breaker as filming has not started yet, but it will give the entire production team more time to make the film.  

While Warner Bros has not commented on reasons why it's being delayed, there are a number of factors that probably have played a hand in it.  December 2012 is being packed with all kinds of big films including Quentin Tarantino's Djano Unchained, The Lone Ranger with Johnny Depp, and Warner Bros own The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.  Obviously, the WB wouldn't want both Man of Steel and The Hobbit to conflict with each other.  And possibly, because of the end of the Harry Potter franchise, and Nolan's last Batman movie releasing next summer, the studio is rethinking about its summer blockbuster plans.  

And another thing to note is that Warner Bros is still within legal rights of the using the Superman brand.  You might remember the big legal mess that splits the rights Superman that involve his traits and characters. Well the studio has to have the film in production by 2012, not released.  So they are in the clear legally.  

While a six month delay is disappointing (now it's a little less than two years), I hope they can make a great movie.
