It might be a toss-up this weekend as to which movie I will be able to see. Both of my most anticipated summer films (other than Super 8) open this weekend and since Cowboys and Aliens is getting plenty of Comic-Con press I'm going to take a minute to talk about why Attack The Block should be on your watchlist.
Writer/director Joe Cornish wrote the script as a mix of business and pleasure, keeping in mind that he had to target as wide of an audience as possible, but keeping true to the types of movies that were inspiration to him from the '70s and '80s. Kids movies from that era, or movies that had a magnetic draw on kids, movies that depicted kids as kids, not exaggerated personas, and actually had kids in genuine danger. The Goonies for example had gunfights, swearing kids, blenders for pureeing plump little hands, dead bodies, stealing bikes from children, conversations about hard core drugs and so on and so forth. I imagine like Super 8 was Abrams homage to Spielberg, Attack the Block could be that homage, although maybe not so much as intended, to The Goonies and Gremlins and other critter movies of the time, in terms of dialog and action.
The other reason, and I've said it before and I'll say it again. Nick Frost. He himself was a big enough draw for me to get interested in this movie and the excitement has just grown the more I read about it and how Cornish got it all to come together.
I'm just geared up for an alien movie, and this weekend I will get my fix, and if Attack the Block opens near here, sorry Cowboys and Aliens we will have to reschedule.

Finally something we agree on. This looks like a fun movie and Nick Frost is definitely the main draw.
I didn't know we disagreed on a lot, I thought that was in the minority, it's just more fun to stir things up with disagreements.
I guess we don't, but Colin Farrell was a big one.
