Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 12:33PM Frank Darabont Walking Away From 'Walking Dead'

I know this is a TV show, but I'm a huge fan of the AMC series, Walking Dead. If you haven't seen the short six episode first season, go watch it. You won't be disappointed. I love apocalypse films and I love zombie films and this is a match made in heaven. That being said, I'm sad that Frank Darabont will quit as the show's director and writer. Considering he was the man behind Shawshank Redemption and Green Mile, this is a huge loss.
Even watching the series, the TV show comes off more like a movie with his directing and I think it's fantastic. I hope they can find someone of equal skill and stature but it's always tough to get well known, accomplished directors to helm TV projects. It is rumored that Darabont's reasoning has to do with the fact that he doesn't like the daily grind of TV schedules and he wants to get back into doing films.
What do you guys think? A major losss?
Anyway, I leave you with the trailer for the second season from Comic Con:

It is a huge loss, but there was no mention of him walking away from the Executive Producer role, so that, coupled with Charles H. Eglee as Executive Producer might be enough to attract some talent to the project.
