Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 11:11PM Jason Bateman as a Pot Dealer in 'We're The Millers'?

Jason Bateman has hit a wave of popularity as of late with two movies (Horrible Bosses, The Change-Up) out this summer, and a long awaited Arrested Development movie reunion finally on the horizon, according to every star on the show, Will Arnett being the latest. Now reports are claiming the actor will play a middle aged pot dealer in the new stoner comedy We're The Millers for New Line and writer/director Rawson Thurber.
The project has been on the shelf for years and previously had Steve Buscemi and Arrested Development co-star Will Arnett attached for the lead at different times; however neither case worked out. The new script, which comes from writers John Morris and Sean Anders (Hot Tub Time Machine) has Bateman playing a low-level weed man who is looking to retire and is relying on one last big score to make it happen. The job entails him to travel to Mexico and smuggle 1,400 pounds of mary jane across the border. In order to succeed, he buys an RV and hires fellow neighbors as a front to act like his family members. Brilliant scheme!
The weed and Bateman combo proved to be funny in Extract (see clip below), and I think it's going to work well in We're The Millers. Plus, we haven't seen a solid pot-related comedy since Pineapple Express.
