I think we all remember the first and slightly formulaic The Expendables directed by Sylvester Stallone? We'll leave our quibbles with formula as secondary importance, as long as the cast is interesting to watch and man does this cast look ever more promising. Novinite has listed the additions of Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris and John Travolta as newest acting members in The Expendables 2 to be directed by Simon West.
"Filming on the sequel to Sylvester Stallone’s 2010 all-star action movie The Expendables is set to begin in September, and now rumors are starting to swirl about what action heavyweights will be along for the ride this time around. Shooting will be taking place in Bulgaria, and the CEO of Bulgaria-based NU Boyana studios David Varod recently dropped some huge names when listing the cast for The Expendables 2".
The cast list already includes: Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke and Dolph Lundgren. This cast list would also include Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis as the "supervillain".
What's also interesting to note is that Sylvester Stallone has passed off the writing and directing reigns to new blood. Simon West will be directing the sequel, he recently directed The Mechanic (which starred Jason Statham). He also directed the action-heavy film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, as well as TV's Human Target. No shortage of experience directing action and some dialogue-fodder here.
The Expendables 2 is currently in pre-production, with a planned shoot in Bulgaria with a tentative realease date 17 August 2012.
