It's often an afterthought that The Hurt Locker director Kathryn Bigelow once made a totally radical early 90's movie called Point Break, which starred the late Patrick Swayze (miss you buddy) and Keanu Reeves. The classic flick taught us all about living life to the extreme through surfing, sky diving minus a parachute, being an F.B.I agent, robbing banks dressed as former U.S. presidents and the exploits of the crazy, mega toothed Gary Busey.
Turns out the writer of the rebooted Total Recall screenplay, Kurt Wimmer (Salt, Law Abiding Citizen) has completed a script for the Point Break remake and it's currently being housed over at RGM Entertainment, Twitch reports. According to their sources, only the script can be confirmed thus far and no cast or director are attached yet.
Again, this is an instance of another rumor making the rounds, meaning nothing is official until an annoucement is made by a credible source. Speculation can be a fun way to pass the time when movie news vanishes during a holiday.
The writer of the original Point Break, Peter Ilif wanted to make a sequel a couple of years ago, but the unfortunate loss of Patrick Swayze to a battle with pancreatic cancer made it impossible. This sad turn of events could soon lead to a reboot that will allegedly focus more on adrenaline junkies who surf and ski, as opposed to surf and sky dive. Sounds lame as hell already.
I'm obviously opposed to a remake, but what do you guys think of a new Point Break?

If a remake is going to be made, remake the entire thing.
Toss out the surfer/skydivers and go with something more current like MMA fighter/robbers.
Right. Don't call it "Point Break" all over again and basically it's "Heat" and "Killing Zoe" with stress addict/extreme sport junkies who also do "scores" - as Deniro calls them in "Heat".
I hate the idea. There is no need for it and it will never ever live up to the real thing! I will never watch it. Waste of time and money.
