Ideally the original should just be left alone along with the other movies in the "Vengence Trilogy" - there's no way they could do the octopus scene again and leave you with the same sense of awe and revulsion, let alone getting an American star to do that scene - FOR REAL - no CGI! Still though, Spike Lee made "Inside Man" into a great post 9/11 New York popcorn heist movie and I'm thinking in terms of making a hard boiled crime movie that stands on it's own - Lee can bust that joint. And boy, does he need something to hit again the way "Inside Man" did.
I think that Spike Lee has the ability to make the film have the same or similar effect as the original. Though I am not sure if a studio would be up for the craziness that was in the original.
