Thursday, August 11, 2011 at 7:13AM 'Harry Potter' Director & Writer to Team with Warner Bros. for 'The Stand' Movies
Director David Yates (pictured below between writer Steve Kloves and producer David Heyman) has raked in big time dough for Warner Bros. with the last four Harry Potter blockbusters. Now Warner Bros. is on the verge of handing Yates and Kloves the keys to bring Stephen King's "The Stand" to the silver screen, Hitfix reports.
The studio is reportedly closing in on a deal with Yates to direct multiple films based on King's hit novel, and is making the massive project a major priority.
The Stand is a classic good vs evil story, which pits survivors of a man-made plague against each other in a battle of biblical proportions. The novel was originally adapted into a decent, but kinda corny Stand TV mini-series back in 1994 that starred Gary Sinise. It was ahead of its time really.
Since it appears that Ron Howard's plan to make The Dark Tower movies has all but failed or is at least postponed for the time being, I'm hoping that Yates and Kloves will get a real chance to adapt the thousand page novel of The Stand into a great franchise.
All sources indicate that Warner Bros. is putting a lot of faith in Yates to deliver on this project, much like he did with the unbelievable work on the Harry Potter films.
