Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at 5:10PM 'The Dark Knight Rises': Tom Hardy Discusses Bane

With both official and unofficial set-photos trickling onto the web, it comes as no surprise that we'll be getting some actual information on the film however evasive. So begins a fanboys quest to gather any and all pertinent information on plot, costumes, etc. for The Dark Knight Rises. It begins with Tom Hardy who spoke with Total Film on him portraying Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, the third and last entry in Christopher Nolan's Batman mythos.
When Total Film recently caught up with Tom Hardy, he told them how Nolan had offered the role on the film:
‘Hang on a minute. You’re asking me to come round the world with you in a Batman movie, playing a villain, and the only downside to it is I have to wear a mask? Hmmm, let me think. I’ll get back to you… No, I’m fucking there, man! Anything you need.’
As many of us fanboys know that in the comics [SPOILER ALERT] Bane is "best known as ‘The Man Who Broke The Bat’" The question remains, will Bane break Batman's back in Nolan's last Batman film?
Hardy responded coyly: “Mmmmm… Good lead-in, but all I can say is that Chris has a plan up his sleeve that’s not at all disappointing. And that is a definite choice that’s watertight in every respect.
Hardy also addresses the topic of playing Bane, the villain that has to follow The Joker, who was played by the late Heath Ledger:
“No, none at all,” he insisted. “Brilliant actor, brilliant work – that’s it. I’ve got a job to do. “It’s the same with Mad Max and Mel Gibson. I’m not here to engage in a competition with their talent. It’s to play the character that I’ve been given.”
On wearing the mask that has been seen in official movie stills:
“Any time you put something over your face, you’re going to adopt a personality and a physicality that has nothing to do with acting. It allows a performance to be free.”
I personally prefer to remain without knowledge as much as I possibly can, but writing for GTBP get kind of hard in avoiding such spoilers. Here's to not having the script leak online.
The Dark Knight Rises is directed by Christopher Nolan and stars Christian Bale, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Gary Oldman and Tom Hardy. The film is schedule for release 20 July 2012.
