Monday, August 22, 2011 at 8:20PM It's Not Easy Being Indie - 'Missing Pieces' Trailer
As an independent filmmaker myself, I know the hardship that can follow the attempted release of a low budget film.
"It's not easy being Indie" is a new column which will follow the successes and failures of films with a tiny budget but a great scope. This week, it's not easy being Kenton Bartlett or any other of the 588 crew members who volunteered to create Missing Pieces.

When I say that it's not easy being Indie, I mean it. The film that springs to mind is Monsters directed by Gareth Edwards, the man created all of the special effects for that film in his bedroom, aswell as directing and writing the project. Can you imagine J.J. Abrams or Speilberg doing that? It's a testament to modern filmmaking technology that a film like Monsters can be made on such a small budget.
On a similar theme, not everyone at the age of 19 would have the impotus to write and direct their own feature film, Kenton Bartlett did just that. Now aged 23, Kenton recently released a short trailer appealing to everyone on the internet, so Reddit, Facebook etc. It took him and nearly 600 people, 3 and a half years to create and now he needs your help.
The film stars Mark Boone Junior (Sons of Anarachy, Batman Begins) and Melora Walters (Magnolia, Big Love) in a film which according to one reviewer is "A whole lot like Saw with emotions instead of blood". In which "A kidnapper takes two lonely souls and tries to make them fall in love by putting them through a series of unique situations."
It may seem like a charity drive, like he's begging for money but believe me that all he wants is a chance to show Missing Pieces to the world. No one at his level of filmmaking is expecting to make any money, so if you have 3 and a half minutes watch this trailer and consider recommending it to a friend.
Remember, It's not easy being Indie.
Also a shorter, less quote filled version of the trailer is also available.
