Marty & Leo to Reboot 'The Gambler' for Paramount?

No matter how many other film projects cause them to drift apart, Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio always manage to reunite one more time.  Word around the campfire, is these two plus writer William Monahan, call them Team Departed are getting back together to remake The Gambler for Paramount, according to Deadline.  

The original Gambler (1974) starred James Caan as a literature professor with an addiction to gambling.  He loses all his money and must borrow money from his girlfriend, his mother and the kind of guys who break legs and cut off fingers when you don't pay up.  None of this breaks his gambling vice.

This is the kind of story that should rightfully have Scorsese's finger prints all over it.  Paramount couldn't have assembled a better trio to bring out the best in this gritty remake.  

The sad part is both DiCaprio and Scorsese have a mountain of other projects ahead of them that will see the light of day before The Gambler goes into production.  The director has kid-friendly Hugo, Silence and the Sinatra biopic, which could star Leo, still on his plate.

Meanwhile, Leo is working with other great filmmakers on The Great Gatsby remake and Django Unchained.

Maybe will see The Gambler in 2013, maybe.
