Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 11:32PM Robert Zemeckis & Denzel to Take 'Flight'; 'Replay' is Grounded

Must be difficult for a director to settle on just a single script from a pile of promising ones. Oscar-winning director Robert Zemeckis, after considering many projects has opted to take on Flight with Denzel Washington (also an Oscar winner) attached to star, Deadline reported yesterday.
As a result of this decision, Zemeckis had to drop the time travel thriller Replay, which I hope lands in the hands of another director. Now back to Flight.
Flight is the story of an airline pilot (Washington) who saves his plane from crashing after an unexpected malfunction and is dubbed a hero. Unfortunately, this would be hero doesn't feel as such, as his problems with drugs and alcohol possibly caused the mishap in the first place. As the investigation is pursued, the pilot does his best to conceal the truth about what really happened.
It makes sense that Zemeckis chose Flight since him and Washington had been prepping to do it for awhile now.
The film adaptation of Ken Grimwood's novel "Replay" would've been a cool, Back to the Future style sci-fi flick with Zemeckis at the helm, but the timing clearly wasn't right for him. I sincerely hope another filmmaker revisits the project sooner than later.
The script of this character drama comes from John Gatins (Real Steel, Coach Carter), and the crew is looking for production on Flight to take off sometime this fall.
