Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at 2:07PM 'Sin City 2' Close Finishing the Script and Getting Funded

Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller really did a great job on the original Sin City. It wasn't a huge box office smash but it did open #1 with $29 million and went on to gross $158 million worldwide. Not bad for a film that only cost $40 million to make. The film was very creative and stylistically, it's a beautiful film. So you might wonder, what is taking so long for Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For?
I have a feeling that Sin City 2 is something that Rodriguez's fans wants him to do but he's not 100% passionate about. Of course, if you ask him, he'll say he can't wait for the filming to start, but lets face it, actions speak louder than words and if he wanted to do it, it would have already been done.
But there's a little more movement now as he says the script is finishing up and the film is funded. Says Rodriguez, "Sin City 2 is going good, we’re just finishing the script for that, we already got the money. We have everything we need so we can just start shooting as soon as we get the pages. And it’s the same thing for Machete 2. We’ve already got the budget, just waiting for the script. As soon as we’re finished writing we get to start the shoot."
The funny thing is, you usually need to have the script before funding. Sure, he might have people ready to fund the project, but that's completely different from actually having the money in the production bank account. Other tidbits? The film will be in 3D and Frank Miller says that "if it's going to happen it's going to be this year." I take it that means filming this year which means a release in summer of 2012.
