Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 11:06PM All Aboard! Colin Firth is 'The Railway Man'

I didn't mean to give the impression that Oscar winner Colin Firth (The King's Speech) will play a train conductor in his next film The Railway Man, quite the oppsite. The Railway Man is actually a story based on the personal account of a former British army officer, Eric Lomax who was tortured by the Japanese in World War II during the construction of the infamous "death railway". Decades later Lomax goes on a mission to exact revenge on his captors.
The Railway Man is being directed by Jonathan Teplitzky (Burning Man) from a script coming from Frank Cottrell Boyce (Millions) and Andy Patterson. UK Lionsgate was in the process of making the film available to buyers at The Toronto International Film Festival earlier today.
Teplitzky seemed thrilled about making this script with Firth attached to star.
"The Railway Man is an amazing story and to have the chance to make it with Colin Firth as Eric is really the best gift any director could hope for," the director said.
This next movie coupled with Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy puts Firth in my category of actors to keep an eye on this year, as he's always linked to exceptional looking film projects.
Shooting for The Railway Man will reportedly begin in February.
