James Cameron Plans 'Walking With Dinosaurs' 3D Movie

Watch out Steven Spielberg, Hollywood's other big fish is bringing dinosaurs to the silver screen.  According to THR, director James Cameron is teaming up with BBC Films to develop a $65 million live-action, CGI movie adaptation of the popular mini-series Walking with Dinosaurs.  He plans to use the same 3D technology made famous by Avatar to bring the pre-historic creatures to life.

Cameron talked about the importance of his CPG company and helping others develop projects with the 3D technology.

"Our goal was to create a brand name that was associated with quality in 3D," Cameron said.  "To do that, we had to have the best technology we could come up with in-house and operate that technology in the field, and most importantly we had to form alliances and partnerships with people who also want to high-quality 3D."

With a big time director, budget and special effects/3D capabilities this project should be a huge box-office hit.  Not to mention, having dinosaurs as your subject matter.  Sounds like a win-win for both sides.

The film is being financed by Reliance Pictures, with 20th Century Fox planning to release it in U.S. theaters by late 2013.  Walking with Dinosaurs will be filmed in Alaska, before moving on to Australia for the animation portion of it.
