One movie I have great anticipation for took home the grand prize at a film festival this weekend. No, it surprisingly wasn't The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), and the winning film wasn't The Ides of March.
The movie I'm talking about is Take Shelter, which stars Michael Shannon and the increasingly popular Jessica Chastain. The psychological drama, written and directed by Jeff Nichols beat out 13 other contending films to win top prize at the 37th Deauville American Film Festival on Saturday. It's the second honor the film has received, the first was at the Cannes Critics Week back in May.
In Take Shelter, Shannon plays a young family man who is overcome with apocalyptic visions of an impending storm, and his paranoia leads him to build a tornado shelter to protect his family.
It's one of a few films, the others being The Ides of March and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy I expect to hear a lot from come Oscar season. Shannon's performance from what I've seen in trailers, like the one attached below looks eerie and impressive.
Take Shelter arrives in theaters at the end of this month (September 30).
