The latest in the world of remakes, reboots, and rereleases adds yet another classic to it's exponentially increasing list. That classic is the Patrick Swayze/Keanu Reeves adrenaline-filled action extravaganza Point Break.
The remake has been acquired by Alcon Entertainment whose list of titles includes Insomnia, The Book of Eli, and the sensational Dude, Where's My Car?. Penning the remake is Kurt Wimmer, of which this will be his second rewrite of a great movie, the first being the upcoming Total Recall. It is still far too early to see how the other key positions are going to be filled, but it will be interesting to see how casting for the on-screen talent is going to turn out and who ends up in the big chair calling the shots.
Personally, I do not feel that this is one of the films that needs a remake. It is still a great film in spite of being twenty years old. Like the Holiday season gets Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer as a staple of holiday cheer, Point Break should be shown at the end of every summer, preferably over Labor Day weekend, so we can all say good-bye to yet another glorious season in the sun.
