Monday, September 19, 2011 at 10:44AM John Singleton & Ice Cube Together Again for NWA Biopic?

I can't believe a biopic for gangster rap's most notorious crew hasn't been made yet. We've seen the late Biggie Smallz get the film tribute, and a biopic for the late Tupac Shakur is on the way, seems only fair the fellas from Compton, CA get their just due.
Turns out director John Singleton is going to be the filmmaker who brings N.W.A to the silver screen, in a reunion of sorts with his Boyz 'N the Hood star Ice Cube. Singleton, whose next film Abduction starring Taylor Lautner hits theaters soon, said "The script is really, really good."
Last year, writer Andrea Berloff (World Trade Center) worked closely with Ice Cube, the producer for the New Line film. So far, the only concerns for the project are whether the N.W.A members appear in the film (since Eazy-E is deceased) and some haven't been heard from in awhile. Casting for the dual role of actor and rapper can also prove to be a tall order.
Those challenges can be the focus of another day, as I'm honestly just excited about this story finally getting made. It should offer plenty of drama and South Central Los Angeles is the perfect setting for that. You too can see the group's triumphant rise from the streets of Compton to selling Gold records to the group's ultimate undoing.
Not everyone remembers the late great N.W.A (want to know what N.W.A stands for? Look it up), so I've included one of their great, yet controversial videos.
