Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at 5:22PM Steven Spielberg Gives an Update on 'Lincoln'
Film master Steven Spielberg is finally giving up the goods on his Lincoln movie starring the great Daniel Day-Lewis as America's 16th president. The busy director discussed the project with The Orlando Sentinel, as he prepares to start shooting in Richmond, Virginia.
The film is based upon Doris Kearns Goodwin's "The Team of Rivals", which detailed the span of Lincoln's entire career in office. However, Spielberg's project will instead focus on only a portion of Honest Abe's presidency.
"There are battles in it, and being in Virginia, we have access to those historic battlefields," Spielberg said. "It is really a movie about the great work Abraham Lincoln did the last months of his life. We're basing it on Doris Kearns Goodwin's book, 'Team of Rivals', but we're only focusing on the last four months of Abraham Lincoln's life."
He said the movie's release date will intentionally come some time around November 2012, during the next presidential election. This could increase the number of write-in votes for Abraham Lincoln on the ballot.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones and John Hawkes will also star in Lincoln.
Lincoln is just one of many projects Spielberg has in motion right now, the others The Adventures of Tintin (December 23, 2011) and War Horse ( December 28, 2011) are currently in post-production.
