From 'Drive' to Done? Gosling Talks Retirement?

Could Gosling really turn his back on acting?

Would Ryan Gosling really go all Steven Soderbergh on movie fans and retire?  Last I heard, Soderbergh changed his mind, and here's hoping Gosling comes to his senses too.  Though after his unforgettable performance in Nicolas Winding Refn's Drive, at least he could go out on top during his prime.

Gosling told The Times he's more or less tired of acting.

"I've been doing this since I was 12," Gosling said.  "I don't want to act much longer, I can't do one thing my whole life.  I know there are only so many characters I'll be able to play.  It will be whenver the inspiration dries up."

The highly sought after actor said he has other things in mind instead of making movies.

"I'd like to be making babies, but I'm not, so I'm making movies.  When someone comes along I don't think I'll be able to do both and I'm fine with that.  I'll make movies until I make babies.  I have no idea when the handover will happen."

Fortunately, in the short term Gosling has a few projects lined up, including A Place Beyond the Pines, Ruben Fleischer's The Gangster Squad and two possible reunions with Refn for Only God Forgives and Logan's Run.  The acting work is there, so fans like me won't have to hope he doesn't make babies for awhile, and his inspiration remains intact.
