Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at 12:15PM Soderbergh's 'The Man From U.N.C.L.E' Eyeing Leo & Other A-Listers
Last weekend we reported a trio of actors (JGL, Alexander Skarsgard and Ryan Gosling) were being considered for leads in Steven Soderbergh's The Man From U.N.C.L.E. film adaptation. Turns out that list has grown much larger since then, and Warner Bros. will start from names at the top of the mountain first. The Playlist reports, the studio is pushing Soderbergh to consider bigger names like Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, Russell Crowe, Ryan Reynolds, Chris Pine, Bradley Cooper, Jon Hamm and Robert Pattison (Ugh).
The added pressure for another A-lister to sign on, reportedly comes from George Clooney's decision to pass on the project. The cast calls for two main agents, one older American agent (the role Clooney declined) and one Russian agent, the film's second lead.
Soderbergh recently met with The Killing star Joel Kinnaman at Comic-Con about playing the Russian agent, which I personally would love to see. Kinnaman also has an upcoming role in David Fincher's remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I think Alexander Skarsgard would be an excellent choice here too.
The Contagion director is also strongly considering two actors he worked with on the action film Haywire, Ewan MacGregor and Michael Fassbender for the role of the American.
Whoa that's a lot of names to go through! I doubt Leo is realistically in the mix here.
If it were up to me, I'd cast Jon Hamm as the American agent and either Joel Kinnaman or Alexander Skarsgard as the Russian agent.
