'Mass Effect' Movie Takes Different Route for Story & More

One of the coolest video games ever, Mass Effect has been silver screen bound for awhile now with Legendary Pictures expected to bring the hit game series to life.  Not so fast.  News today is, while Legendary will create a Mass Effect feature film only the male version of Commander Sheperd's character will make the jump.  What?

The studio is working closely with the producers at BioWare to keep specific aspects consistent with the game, but the plan is to ditch the Mass Effect game storyline and start from scratch.  Basically, this movie adaptation might match the game in title and one lead character only.

Seth Green, who voiced Joker in the game also won't be making the big screen jump either, at least not right now.  Hopefully, more characters other than just Commander Sheperd are included in the film.

There's also a rumor making the rounds that Daft Punk will be pursued to provide the film's soundtrack, similar to the awesome score they put together for TRON: Legacy.  

Of course, Legendary already dropped the ball by abandoning a good story to create their own, in my estimation.  It'll be interesting to see how much of the movie resembles the actual game once the script is completed and ready to shoot.  

I could be making a big deal about nothing, just getting tired of Hollywood using name recognition minus the content that made the name memorable in the first place.  The fact they're consulting the game producers gives me a sliver of hope the movie turns out good.
