Friday, September 23, 2011 at 2:14PM 'Kick-Ass 2' Could Happen Minus Matthew Vaughn?

Everyone loved Kick-Ass, and there's obvious fan demand for a sequel. So, why isn't Kick-Ass 2 in development already? You can't point to a number of reasons, though as of right now the blame is being placed on the availibility of director Matthew Vaughn.
Kick-Ass comic book author Mark Millar spoke with the Los Angeles Times recently about the second series run of the comic, and of course the question of a second film popped up. Millar said because everyone from the first film is now so succesful, it might be difficult to get everyone back for another movie.
It's true, Chloe Grace Moretz has since become a mega star who's booked indefinitely. Aaron Johnson is currently shooting Savages with Oliver Stone. And McLovin (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) has a full slate of starring roles as well. Not to mention, Matthew Vaughn directed X-Men: First Class and is now considering many other film projects.
Here's what Millar had to say about what might get Kick-Ass 2 back in motion.
"Hopefully, we can use the same actors if and when we do a sequel, but getting Matthew [Vaughn] to direct or Jane [Goldman] to write a movie at this budget would be very difficult because they're superstars now and they have projects of their own," Millar said.
"I'd imagine, if this happens anytime soon, that Matthew will produce and possibly co-write, like George Lucas did with The Empire Strikes Back, and hire a new director."
I hate to say this, but Kick-Ass 2 ain't happenin'. The writing is on the wall, and the wall is about to come crumbling down.

Only do it if you have the main actors. People will not care otherwise.
