Monday, September 26, 2011 at 5:17PM Julia Ormand Out, Ayelet Zurer In As 'Man of Steel's Mother
Earlier this year, it was reported that Julia Ormand was set to play Lora Lor-Van, the birth mother of Kal-El, or Superman for the comic illiterate in Man of Steel. Well, Deadline has reported that Ormand is out and Ayelet Zurer is in. Zurer was in such films as Angels and Demons, Munich, and Vantage Point, neither film I remember watching. Ayelet accompanies Russell Crowe, Jor-El, as the birth parents of Superman.
The superhero film entitled, Man of Steel, is a retelling of the origin story we all have come to known and love. Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is sent to Earth by his parents from Krypton to then be adopted by a loving couple, Martha and Jonathan Kent (Diane Lane and Kevin Costner respectivley). After discovering he has near limitless powers, he questions his place on Earth and is faced with the daunting task of keeping planet earth safe. The villian Superman is set to take down is General Zod, played by Michael Shannon. The film is directed by slow-motion aficionado Zack Snyder and is produced by Chris Nolan, helmer of the latest Batman trilogy.
I can't really comment about Zurer in this film. I have seen Vantage Point and Munich but I can't remember her being in either film but I think I can put my trust in Nolan and Snyder who seem like they know what their doing, *wink*. Let's hope that this is an improve over Bryan Singer's Superman Returns back in 2006. Man of Steel is set to release June 14, 2013.
