We can forget about the horrible Mortal Kombat movie and it's even worse sequel Mortal Kombat: Annilation spawned by the now legendary video game franchise. Earlier in the year, director Kevin Tancharoen gave Mortal Kombat the shot in the arm it needed, releasing a ten episode web series on Youtube that caught the attention of a studio.
THR reports, New Line will officially reboot the franchise with a new feature film, and have given Tancharoen the opportunity to direct it. His previous film experience comes from the Fame remake and Glee: The 3D Concert Movie. The new script will be written by Oren Uziel, who penned the short film Mortal Kombat: Rebirth.
None of the actors for the series will reprise their roles in the movie, which saw Jeri "Star Trek babe" Ryan play Sonya Blade and Black Dynamite star Michael Jai White as Jax.
Now the only remaining questions are which characters will be in the reboot, and who will be cast to play them? I remember Rayden, Johnny Cage, Sub-Zero, Sonya Blade, Liu Kang and Scorpion from the first video game and movie. I'm not sure what level of talent they be able to recruit for this movie.
Of course, my opinion means nothing until I check out this web series first and see what all the fuss is about.
New Line is aiming for a 2013 theatrical release for Mortal Kombat.

I saw a part of the series posted on Youtube. The part I saw had Michael Jai White dealing with someone and It looked good. I remember the originals too, terrible movies, but far better than that Error called street fighter.
