Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 10:12AM 'Paranormal Activity 3' Trailer
What made the first Paranormal Activity great was that in the decade ruled by Saw, Hostel, and Japanese ghost girls, PA did something none of those other films could do -- instill fear into its audience. I remember sleeping with one eye open the next week and half after watching it. However, when Paramount released the sequel, I was excited and rushed to see the film hoping to get scared all over again.
Unfortunately, that feeling never returned. Some viral clips surfaced on the internet for the third film, Paranormal Activity 3.

I was scared initiallly, but with the release of the brand new theatrical trailer, I feel as though I may pass on PA 3.
This film serves a prequel to the first two, taking place in 1988. The premise is the same, a ghost or demon is terrorizing sisters Katie and Kristi, who were possesed in the first and second film respectively. Their parents recorded them cinema verite. Then strange things happen: bed sheets move, doors close, people are dragged into the air... Stuff that we've seen before. It left a bad taste in my mouth. I prefer to get scared and enjoy huddling underneath my blanket. Check it out the trailer below to see what I mean.
I am disappointed, though disappointed is an understatement. How about pissed off? Yeah, I'll stick with pissed off. There is an old saying, "if it isn't broke, don't fix it", and Paramount has clearly stuck to that credo for this series (and Transformers). Paranormal Activity has become stale; Paramount should have not done a found footage film, but instead made a continuation of maybe, Ali (Kristi's daughter) trying to stop Katie and rescue Hunter, her brother. That sounds corny too. I can't be completely negative about this trailer either.
There is a shot of their house on fire so I would love to see how the fire began, and what led to the sisters getting amnesia. They never mentioned their father was recording them at a much younger age. Looks like Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost should stick to recording themselves. Lets see what happens when the film releases October 21st.
What are your thoughts on the trailer, readers? Was my assessment too harsh?
