Friday, September 30, 2011 at 5:26PM Christopher Nolan #1 On Warners List for 'Twilight Zone'
It's easy to see why filmmaker Christopher Nolan is atop Warner Bros. list of directors to create a new Twilight Zone feature film, he's reportedly the front-runner by a wide margin. The genius who breathed new life into the Batman franchise and wowed movie fans with Inception, will certainly be in high-demand once The Dark Knight Rises is in the can.
The Twilight Zone is timeless fiction that could easily translate into the studio's next mega blockbuster, and Nolan's vision would be the ideal fit for it. Warners is counting on their great relationship with Nolan on previous projects as their main selling point.
Of course, if Nolan passes the studio is ready to pounce on the next big name, and so on and so on. The other choices are said to be Michael Bay (Ugh), Alfonso Cuaron (Children of Men, Gravity) and possibly Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt. Bay is a major step down from Nolan in my opinion, though I wouldn't be opposed to Cuaron or Wyatt if Nolan passes.
Speculation is that The Twilight Zone might be too similar to Inception for Nolan's liking. As a huge fan of the original Twilight Zone TV series, I'd love to see what Nolan could do with it, even more so if he writes all new stories for the film.
I'm crossing my fingers that Nolan takes on this project. Who's with me?

I'm sure it all depends on what they're doing. Is it an anthology movie or is it taking one of the classic tv episodes and expanding and updating it to it's own movie? There've been approaches and attempts at doing a "Twilight Zone movie" in the past where they wanted to take this approach, but they never developed. It could be another anthology approach like Spielberg's in the 80's but the argument is they're always too much for a collection of short movies. They can be a kind of showcase for a certain class of established directors and maybe even a newer one or two, but again the idea is the little short movie they make gets outshined by the one that comes before it or after it. If the idea is for the director to do ALL of them, that may not be to the direcor's liking, as it's a lot of work for 4 or 5 short MOVIES. It's interesting but we'll have to wait and see what the overall idea is.
