Birdwatching sounds like the single most boring activity to do. I love birds, in fact my nickname is named after one, but going out to watch birds seems boring. It could probably be compared to the down time between catching fish on a fishing trip. Now competitive birdwatching might be a tad more exciting if Jack Black, Steve Martin, and Owen Wilson are your competition. That's the basis for the new film, The Big Year, competitive birdwatching.

The first poster for the David Frankel directed film was released yesterday. Frankel, best known for his films The Devil Wears Prada and Marley and Me, directs an all-star cast of Steve Martin, Jack Black, Owen Wilson, Rashida Jones, Jim Parsons, Rosamund Pike, Anthony Anderson, Dianne Wiest, Brian Dennehy, Kevin Pollak, Corbin Bernsen, Tim Blake Nelson, Joel McHale, and Anjelica Huston, in what looks likes to be a feel good picture. Check out the poster; you get a sense of the quirkiness from the characters and a tone of the film (a light hearted, feel good comedy).
The trailer is a bit light on the laughs but I never felt as though I was wasting my time watching it. My guess is that the marketing team wants me to first relate to the leads and maybe a second trailer will release showcasing the funny. I don't know, but The Big Year looks like it could be a coming-of-(late)age gem. Check out the trailer below and tell us what you think in the comments below.
The Big Year is based on the book The Big Year: A Tale of Man, Nature, and Fowl Obsession, written by Mark Obmacik.

From the cast alone, this looks like it will make a billion dollars.
