Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at 3:11AM 'Beetle Juice' Sequel Finally Gets the Greenlight?

Tim Burton's Beetle Juice was one of my favorites as a kid, and now 20 plus years later Warner Bros. is finally ready to talk sequel. Deadline reports the studio just signed a two year contract producing deal with David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith, and one of their first projects is expected to be a long overdue Beetle Juice follow up.
The new movie won't be a remake, but the intent is to reboot for a new movie and further the storyline. I wonder if the plan is to still include Michael Keaton as the gifted demon (or whatever he was), as playing Beetle Juice was one of his best performances, in my opinion. It'd be pretty cool to see Burton return to direct as well.
Both Grahame-Smith and Katzenberg were earlier attached as co-directors for the movie Pride and Prejudice and Zombies before the gig ended up going to Craig Gillespie (Fright Night). Warner Bros. is more than happy to have these two rising stars in the fold.
"We first got to know Seth through his fantastic work 'Dark Shadows'," said the studio. "And it immediately became a priority to expand our relationship with him. Seth introduced us to David. We firmly believe in their talents and are extremely excited to welcome to the Warners family."
I'm not sure what capacity Grahame-Smith and Katzenberg will serve for the Beetle Juice sequel, whether the two plan to direct or just produce. I guess the most important thing to take away from this story is that the long awaited sequel is on the Warner Bros. agenda now.
